About Us
The Heritage Quilters’ Guild was established in 1996 by a small group of women who were members of the Napanee Piecemakers. These women were meeting as a group for fifteen years in a private home. They now felt the need to expand and open up the quilting experience to more people in the Napanee area. On October 15th 1996 a public meeting was held to see if there was enough interest to form a guild. Forty-four people showed up to show their support. It was decided that the meetings would be on the third Tuesday of the month. The first meeting was held in November of 1996.
On June 17th 1997, the first general meeting of this fledgling guild was held with 23 of 38 paid-up members in attendance. The meeting included a potluck. After dinner the membership chose, from nine submissions, Earla Welsman’s design for the guild logo. They also elected an executive and the Napanee Heritage Quilters’ Guild was underway.
By 2004 the membership grew to include 53 quilters. They were still meeting on the third Tuesday of the month from 7 until 9 p.m.
In 2007 the membership had increased to nearly 70 members. In May of this year, after two smaller quilt auctions previously, they had their first major Quilt Show and Mini Quilt Silent Auction. They had several venders and featured Margaret Henshaw’s prize quilts. Marg was their very first vice president.
The show was an astounding success and the executive are busy planning another one for the spring of 2009.
